CIFS SVM is experiencing issues contacting DNS after upgrade

Issue

  • After upgrade from ONTAP 9.7P17 to 9.8P18 CIFS SVM cannot contact DNS or resolve NTFS permissions

secd.dns.server.timed.out:debug
secd.dns.srv.lookup.failed:debug
  • cifs check shows DC server status as down and: 

STATUS DETAILS: Error: no connections available / Unable to contact DNS

Example:

::> cifs check -vserver svm1

Vserver : svm1
Cifs NetBIOS Name : svm1_cifs
Cifs Status : Running
Site :

  • EMS:
kernel: netinet.ethr.duplct.ipAdrr:error]: Duplicate IP address
  • LIF migration has been used a temporary workaround but issue reocurrs a few days later
  • SVM is part of a SVM-DR relationship
