Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • IOM12
  • SAS HBA

Answer

The available bandwidth when using IOM12 and SAS3 cards depends on a few factors:

  • The operation size
  • I/O type (read/write)
  • The type of SAS HBA
  • The number of SAS ports per node

With 32KB operation size the maximum bandwidth is the following:

4-shelves stack using IOM12 and 2 SAS3 ports – 6.8 GB/s
4-shelves stack using IOM12 and 4 SAS3 ports – 13.6 GB/s
2-shelves stack using IOM12 and 2 SAS3 ports – 7.2 GB/s

  • A pure read or pure write workload is at the low end of the range at 5.7 GB/s.
  • For 32KB operation size, the throughput range for the SAS HBA PM8072 is around 5.1GB/s - 7.2GB/s.
