Slow performance and IO timeout reported by DB application

Issue

  • An Oracle alert log indicates that the Log Writer (LGWR) process is experiencing significant delays due to disk I/O operations.
  • The application report the following error:
LGWR : Waits for event 'Disk File Operations I/O' for 66 secs
    .... 76 secs
   ---- 126 sec
 LGWR waits on event 'enq: CF - contention' for 90 secs
 
  • No storage layer performance contention is noticed, and latency is in sub-milliseconds.
