Slow SnapMirror or volume move or low throughput due to BRE/LRSE Throttling on ONTAP 9.14.1 or higher
Applies to
- ONTAP 9.14.1 and higher
- SnapMirror
- Block Replication Engine (BRE)
- Logical Replication with Storage Efficiency (LRSE)
- Volume Move
- CBS (Cloud Backup Service) / SnapMirror cloud (SMc)
Issue
- Low throughput during SnapMirror transfers due to Replication Engine throttling
- Verify that the following items have been eliminated as potential issues first
- Avoid running too many SnapMirror transfers at once
- Spread out the SnapMirror transfers to reduce impact
- Initiate SnapMirror transfers during times of lower user workloads and lower CPU activity
- Check to see if the global throttling mechanism is in use for SnapMirror
- If the replication traffic is going over a WAN, you can enable Network Compression for those SnapMirror policies to improve performance
- Note: Do not use network compression in cases of already high CPU utilization
- Low throughput during CBS transfers to cloud vendor like Azure due to Replication Engine throttling on source controller.
