High disk utilization at night between 1 to 5 AM

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • All FAS, AFF, Cloud Volumes ONTAP, or ONTAP Select clusters or Metroclusters

Issue

  • Disk utilization is seen or reported to be high daily at 1 AM (cluster time) to 5 AM or on Sundays 1AM to 7 AM (AFF) or 1 AM to 1 PM (FAS)
  • A high disk utilization alert is seen for high disk load overnight, and is not when deduplication or other processes are running
  • Active IQ Unified Manager events:
    • Aggregate Disks Over-utilized Event Obsoleted
    • Aggregate Latency Critical Threshold Breached
    • MAX Data Disk Utilization value of % on <aggregate> has triggered a WARNING event based on threshold setting of 95%
    • Suggested Actions to Fix The Issue
      • Consider moving the workloads to another aggregate
