What is Temperature Sensitive Storage Efficiency?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Storage Efficiency
- Compression
- Temperature Sensitive Storage Efficiency (TSSE)
Answer
Temperature Sensitive Storage Efficiency (TSSE) is the inital method in ONTAP 9 to do Auto Adaptive Compression, introduced in ONTAP 9.8, where ONTAP can decide based on block temperature to compress data in either lighter 8k or stronger 32k compression-groups.
Additional Information
- Refer Volume vs. Aggregate Compression (which refers logical Deduplication in use along with TSSE/CBSE)
- Downside from TSSE before 9.11.1 is No compression (reporting 0)savings in ONTAP 9.8 or later at the volume level and aggregate level
- Refer sequential packing 9.13.1
- refer active data sequential repacking 9.14.1 where temperature does not matter anymore
