Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 Software Licensing and Packaging

Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 utilize node-specific software license keys tied to a Controller Serial Number. The Controller Serial Number for the entitled hardware is embedded in each license key, and those keys will only work on that target controller. Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 license keys cannot be used on multiple controllers, and transferring them (for example, during a 'head swap') requires NetApp intervention.

Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 license keys are 28 characters long, easily identifiable from earlier Data ONTAP version license keys.

Table 1 below defines the Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 software packaging model and describes where license keys are required to enable Data ONTAP protocols and features.

Data ONTAP 8.2 and 8.3 are not supported on FAS20xx, FAS/V3020, 3040, 3050, 3070, 6030, and 6070.

If you are deploying Data ONTAP 8.2 or 8.3 clean on an existing controller (for example, a controller purchased with Data ONTAP 8.1 or earlier), you might require new license keys. Work with your Sales or Support representative to request new license keys in such cases.
