Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • Clustered ONTAP 8.X
  • AFF systems
  • FAS Systems

Issue

  • The system reports it cannot see all disks in the cluster from one node in the cluster.
  • Takeover not possible on the node that cannot see all partner disks.
  • Following is also observed:
    • Disk fails on node A and is replaced
    • Node B reports takeover is not possible because the local node is missing partner disks
    • Check STORAGE-FAILOVER.XML section on Node B (node that did not own the failed disk). It will list the UID of the old disk in the 'Missing Disks on Partner Node' field.
  • EMS logs confirm the presence of a BUG:

Mon May 04 21:16:13 GMT [node-name: pmcsas_asyncd_4: sas.adapter.debug:info]: params: {'debug_string': 'A different device detected at 11b.42.6 than what was here previously. Old WWN 5:000cca:0221942:a5 New WWN 5:000c50:07676c8:11.', 'adapterName': '11a'}

Fri Jun 26 00:23:15 GMT [node-name: api_dpool_01: cf.disk.inventory.mismatch:critical]: Status of the disk 11b.42.6 (5000C500:7676C813:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000) has recently changed or the node (node-name) is missing the disk.

  • STORAGE-FAILOVER.XML shows Local node missing partner disks
    • Example:

Takeover Possible    false
Reason Takeover not Possible
            Local node missing partner disks
