Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • External Key Manager server (KMIP server)

Issue

  • After upgrading ONTAP clusters, some nodes in the cluster cannot communicate with external KMIP servers.
  • This results in some nodes reporting KMIP servers as “not-responding” while others report them as “available.”
  • This is a change from previous behavior, where all nodes could access KMIP servers.

    Example:
::> security key-manager external show-status -fields key-server-status
node        vserver     key-server           key-server-status
---------------------------------------------------------------
node1       svm-xxx     kmip1:xxxx           not-responding
node1       svm-xxx     kmip2:xxxx           not-responding
node2       svm-xxx     kmip1:xxxx           available
node2       svm-xxx     kmip2:xxxx           available
