Applies to

  • ONTAP 9 and later
  • CIFS/SMB
  • MS office

Issue

  • When the end user tries to open the file for the first time, they gets an error "file is locked for editing by user1".
  • However when checked in computer management, the file is actually opened by another user for example- user2.
  • After the file is closed by the actual user(user2), it is accessible to others without any error.
  • So, the error message is reporting for an incorrect user(user1).
  • It should ideally report as "file is locked for editing by user2" and NOT user1.
