Duplicate IP address message reported in EMS

Issue

  • The following error message is displayed in the event log for a short span of time:

netinet.ethr.duplct.ipAdrr: Duplicate IP address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX!! sent from Ethernet address:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.

  • 2 data LIFs and 1 Intercluster LIF are impacted.
  • No IP address conflicts are noticed as described in KB article EMS message for duplicate IP address (netinet.ethr.duplct.ipAdrr:error)
  • The MAC addresses called out is from a port  on Cisco switch. 
  • Network team had confirmed that there are no other devices using these IPs.
  • No access issues or other issues seen as a result of the duplicate IP. 
  • Ping test from client to the data LIFs and vice versa was successful. 
  • No issues seen in VIFMGR logs. 
  • From previous logs, we were able to confirm that the effected IP addresses  was previously assigned to the ONTAP node node1 as part of the cluster_mgmt LIF.
