Anti-ransomware protection cannot be enabled on the volume

Issue

ONTAP displays an error when
  • Attempting to enable Autonomous Ransomware Protection (ARP) on the volume:
::> security anti-ransomware volume enable -vserver <vserver_name> -volume <volume_name>
Error: Failed to enable anti-ransomware on volume "volume_name" in Vserver "vserver_name".
Reason: Unable to set volume attribute "anti-ransomware-state" for volume "volume_name" on Vserver "vserver_name".
 
  • Or start ARP in the learning mode:
::> security anti-ransomware volume dry-run -volume <volume_name> -vserver <vserver_name>
Error: Failed to dry-run anti-ransomware on volume "volume_name" in Vserver "vserver_name"
Reason: Unable to set volume attribute "anti-ransomware-state" for volume "volume_name" on Vserver "vserver_name".
 
The volume didn't run out of usable space or the available amount of files (inodes):
::*> volume show -vserver <vserver_name> -volume <volume_name> -fields size,files,files-used,files-maximum-possible
