CONTAP-597824: ONTAP Snapshots Remain Busy with SISClone Owner After SnapCenter VM Restore

Issue

  • After performing a SnapCenter VMware (SCV) restore of a specific VM, the volume developed one or more busy snapshots with “SISClone” as the owner.
  • This state blocks the creation of new snapshots and prevents the deletion or purging of existing SIS-owned snapshots, impacting snapshot and backup creation.
  • Snapshot creation attempts fail with errors similar to:
    Snapshot copy operation failed for volume vol1. Reason: Snapshot operation not allowed due to clones backed by snapshots. Try again after some time.
