Mediator add fails with permission denied in Mediator logs

Issue

  • Attempt to add the Mediator host via ONTAP CLI (metrocluster configuration-settings mediator add) fails:
Error: command failed: The request to reach the mediator failed during the add operation.
Check if the mediator is reachable and then try the operation again.
  • Verified that the mediatoradmin password is correct
  • Verified that Mediator services are started on the host and listening on ports 3260 and 31784
  • Tested and verified connectivity between ONTAP and Mediator host on ports 3260 and 31784
  • Mediator logs show PAM permission denied errors:
 
sudo: PAM account management error: Permission denied
