Applies to

  • Cisco cluster switch
  • MetroCluster IP

Issue

  • Switch port displays  transceiver is not present

Example:

Switch-A1# sh int Eth1/16 transceiver details
Ethernet1/16
    transceiver is not present

  • Disabing/Enabling the affected port and setting port speed to fixed value do not fix the issue
  • Rebooting connected device (e.g. storage node or switch) does not resolve the issue
  • After swapping SFP/cable with known-good components, the port remains down

Example:

show interface brief
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ethernet        VLAN    TypeMode  Status  Reason                Speed     Port
Interface                                                                    Ch#
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eth1/3          101    eth  trunk  down    Link not connected      100G(D) --
Eth1/4          101    eth  trunk  up      none                    100G(D) --

  • The device connected to the affected switch port (e.g. storage node or switch port) comes online when connected to a different switch port
