Snapshots not being deleted, accumulating on SnapMirror destination volume

Issue

  • Snapshots are accumulating on a SnapMirror destination volume running ONTAP 9.11.1PX & 9.12.1.
  • Typically the Snapshots accumulating are SnapMirror Snapshots, but others may accumulate as well.
  • SnapMirror job(s) may fail as the destination volume has reached the snapshot limit.
  • The SnapMirror policy is not being followed and Snapshots are not being deleted as configured.
  • The following logs may be seen on the destination, reporting the failure to delete Snapshots:

maximum supported count of 1019. Execute "snapmirror show -destination-vserver <Vserver Name> -fields
last-transfer-error,unhealthy-reason -expand" to check if the constituent volumes have encountered errors.
