SnapMirror Synchronous (SM-S) was added to ONTAP as an add-on feature in ONTAP 9.5 in 2018. At that time, customers were required to purchase and apply the license in addition to a SnapMirror license to enable the SM-S functionality. In June 2019, NetApp decided to include the SM-S license in the Premium Bundle and Flash Bundle, and to allow all existing customers who own either of these bundles to use the feature at no cost.

SM-S requires that SnapMirror also be entitled and enabled. The following link leads to a License Keys page with keys that enable the SM-S feature on any system with Premium Bundle or Flash Bundle that has SnapMirror licensed and operating:
