Is NAT supported with cluster peering or SnapMirror in ONTAP?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- SnapMirror
- Amazon FSx for NetApp
Answer
No. Neither ONTAP cluster peering nor SnapMirror support Network Address Translation (NAT)
- When a cluster peer relationship is established between two clusters, cluster peer address discovery occurs.
- Cluster peer address discovery is a process where clusters share their local / private InterCluster LIF IP addresses to determine the necessary connections to be made, as well as to verify cluster peer health.
- If there is a mismatch between the discovered IP addresses and the addresses that are reachable, or that are configured by running the
cluster peer create
command, peering fails and SnapMirror relationships will not work properly.
