  • Note - AIX support with SM-BC is PVR only
  • SnapMirror active sync (formerly known as SnapMirror Business Continuity [SM-BC])
  • ONTAP 9.11.1 GA and later

Description

  • This article provides instructions on configuring an AIX host to support SnapMirror active sync with ONTAP.
  • SnapMirror active sync, enables business services to continue operating even through a complete site failure, supporting applications to fail over transparently using a secondary copy. Manual intervention nor custom scripting are required in general to trigger a failover with SnapMirror active sync. However, there are certain limitations and considerations that need to be taken into account when implementing this solution with AIX, which is detailed in this KB article.
  • Starting from the ONTAP 9.11.1 GA release, IBM AIX is supported with SnapMirror active sync with a PVR.
Limitations:

During SM active sync failover events, the following considerations should be noted:

  • AIX Installed on ONTAP Storage (SANboot) and Data LUNs from ONTAP:
If the AIX system is booted from the ONTAP storage, a host reboot is required after failover event.. This means that applications running on the AIX system will need to be restarted after the failover event is completed.
  • AIX Installed on local storage (Internal hard disk) and Data LUNs from ONTAP:
A host rescan using the "cfgmgr" command will be required to recognize the changes in new SAN paths after the failover event is completed.
