Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- ONTAP 9.8 and later
Answer
- No, it is not possible to use the
vol move
command to move a non-SnapLock volume to a SnapLock aggregate in ONTAP 9.7 or earlier - When vol move is used to move a non-SnapLock volume to a SnapLock aggregate, on ONTAP 9.7 or earlier, the operation fails with the error:
Unable to move volume [non-SnapLock volume name] in Vserver [vserver name] to aggregate [snaplock aggregate]. Moving a volume to a SnapLock aggregate is not supported.

is based on SnapMirror, and so inherits the same restrictions placed on SnapMirror when attempting to replicate a non-SnapLock volume to a SnapLock aggregate- "Starting in ONTAP 9.8, you can move a SnapLock volume to a destination aggregate of the same type..." but it is still not possible to vol move a non-SnapLock volume to a SnapLock aggregate
