SQL database restore fails with error: could not find one or more files to restore

  • iSCSI direct attached dedicated LUNs

Issue

  • When attempting to restore an SQL database to the same host where the backup was created, it fails with the error seen in the Job Details:

could not find one or more files to restore

  • There is an access denied error when accessing the database and log LUN to be restored in the <installation_path>\NetApp\SnapCenter\SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft Windows\job_logs\SCW_<id>.log:

Verbose SDW PID=[4656] TID=[9004] Failed to discover directory containment <drive_letter>:\System Volume Information
Verbose SDW PID=[4656] TID=[9004] Access to the path '<drive_letter>:\System Volume Information' is denied.   at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
Verbose SDW PID=[4656] TID=[9004] Failed to discover directory containment <drive_letter>:\System Volume Information
Verbose SDW PID=[4656] TID=[9004] Access to the path '<drive_letter>:\System Volume Information' is denied.   at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)

  • A restore of the same database works if restoring to an alternate host
