Applies to

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SCV) 4.5
  • Duplicate NFS IP addresses exist across multiple storage virtual machine (SVM)s
  • NFS export paths are same for the NFS datastores

Issue

  • SCV sometimes selects wrong SVM as a backup target; then fails
  • vmcontrol_<JOB_ID>.log shows that SCV selects wrong SVM by using duplicate NFS IP

DEBUG <HOST> --- [tp1694819250-10] c.n.a.d.VsphereDiscoveryManager          : Datastore type is NFS
DEBUG <HOST> --- [tp1694819250-10] c.n.a.m.DatastoreStorageDetailsCache     : Calling GetNasStorageInfo with NFS LIF <IP> and exportPath <EXPORTPATH>
..
DEBUG <HOST> --- [tp1694819250-10] c.n.a.m.DatastoreStorageDetailsCache     : Calling GetNasStorageInfo with NFS LIF finished
DEBUG <HOST> --- [tp1694819250-10] c.n.a.m.DatastoreStorageDetailsCache     : Storage footprint found for nfsLif <IP> and exportPath <EXPORTPATH>:  ipAddress null vserverName <SVM> volumeName <VOLUME> junctionPath <JUNCTIONPATH> isLocatedOnFGfalse

  • Job-<JOB_ID>.log shows request is executed against wrong SVM; then fails

Example:

[DBG] Running Command New-NcSnapshotMulti controller name : <IP>, vserver : <SVM>
[ERR] API exception
[ERR] Failed to run a command New-NcSnapshotMulti
[DBG] ex.Message : Invalid input. Reason: Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes.
[DBG] ex.InnerException.Message : Invalid input. Reason: Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes.
..
[ERR] Error: Snapshot operation failed, Exception:Failed to run a command New-NcSnapshotMulti

Invalid input. Reason: Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes.

Note: Error can be varied depends on the configuration
