How to get SCO cold backups to restore without recovery

When doing an Offline backup, whether Mount or Shutdown, the database is taken down using the shutdown immediate command.  This command could leave some transactions in the redo logs and may require then to open the database.  If the redo logs are lost then this will require much manual intervention to open the database.
