Answer

Active IQ Unified Manager backups are platform and version specific. A backup from an older version cannot be restored to a newer version. For example, a backup from 9.7 cannot be restored to an instance running 9.7P1. If you need to migrate hosts, the same version of the application needs to be installed. It can then be upgraded to a newer version.

For platforms a backup can only be restored to the same OS type(Windows, Linux, vApp). The exception to this is that backups from the Virtual Appliance(vApp) can be restored to Linux hosts. For more information see the section on Migrating a Unified Manager Virtual Appliance to a Linux System.
