Unexpected character encountered trying to add SVM in SCV 5.0(P1)

Issue

After the upgrade of SCV from 4.9(P1) to 5.0, none of the SVMs appear to backup anymore, and trying to add the primary SVM back in gives the error:
 
Error occured while adding storage system. Failed to add/update storage system information: Failed to connect to storage system <SVM_FQDN>.Unexpected character encountered while parsing value: <. Path '', line 0, position 0.
