SCV backup job removes VM snapshots that were manually created by users

Applies to

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SCV)
  • When manually creating VM snapshot, a VM snapshot whose name is  SCV__[VM_UUID] like SCV__501e57e9-04b0-368a-d871-47d7f14e1a4e existed

Notes:

  • VM snapshot SCV__[VM_UUID] is created by SCV during a backup job
  • VM snapshot SCV__[VM_UUID] is deleted by SCV after the completion of taking an ONTAP volume snapshot
  • VM snapshot SCV__[VM_UUID] can linger in case SCV fails to delete it for some reason like a network issue

Issue

When running  a SCV backup job, SCV deletes VM snapshots that were manually created after VM snapshot SCV__[VM_UUID]
