Applies to

  • SnapCenter Server (SC) 4.4 and 4.5
  • SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft Exchange Server (SCE) 4.4 and 4.5
  • Exchange DAG

Answer

  • SC first retrieves the DAG nodes and checks whether each node is up or down with the command GetClusterMembersUsingWMI

<installation_path>\Program Files\NetApp\SnapCenter\SMCore\log\SMCoreService.log

DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] Cluster node <node_name> state is eHostUp
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] Cluster node <node_name> state is eHostUp
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] Cluster node <node_name> state is eHostUp
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] Retrieving the cluster Nodes: [Completed]
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] GetClusterMembersUsingWMI - End

  • It then lists the nodes ALPHABETICALLY with the DAG owner shown as the first one regardless if it is the actual DAG owner, see the example below using nodes A,B and C:

<installation_path>\Program Files\NetApp\SnapCenter\SMCore\log\SMCoreService.log

DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] First Member Node: A; Member Nodes: A,B,C
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] It's a cluster scheduled request A.xxx.local, A is the owner of <DAG_name>
DEBUG SMCore PID=[2908] TID=[24] Cluster FQDN <DAG_FQDN>

BURT has been filed for SC to pick up the correct DAG owner
