VSS capable backup programs create GUID Snapshots on ONTAP LUN Volumes

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for Windows (SCW) 4.0 and higher
  • ONTAP VSS Hardware Provider
  • SnapManager for Echange (SME)
  • SnapManager for Hyper-V (SMHV)
  • SnapCenter Plug-in for Exchange (SCE)


What using third party Backup programs like CommVault or Symantec NetBackup to backup the entire host, Snapshots like "{GUID}" are created, followed by a clone of the Volume, when that backup completes normally.
Both that Snapshot and possibly a clone may remain behind after the Backup.
