Unable to restore an encrypted VM

Issue

  • When restoring an encrypted VM get the following error message in vCenter:

Invalid or unsupported virtual machine configuration. Source VM/Disk vm-14193 encrypted, but no storage-policy selected for the destination. Select an appropriate storage-policy to either decrypt or keep the VM/Disk encrypted.

  • Error in SCV job log:

ERROR chbrnnsc01 --- [825027294-61402] c.n.a.v.VsphereService                   : Invalid or unsupported virtual machine configuration.
DEBUG chbrnnsc01 --- [825027294-61402] c.n.a.v.MigrationService                 : [JobId:13942] Relocate VM Task failed
WARN chbrnnsc01 --- [825027294-61402] c.n.a.r.AbstractRestoreStrategy          : [JobId:13942] Error in relocating VM: <VM_Name>
DEBUG chbrnnsc01 --- [825027294-61402] c.n.a.r.AbstractRestoreStrategy          : Clearing the mounted datastore map to prevent unmount. The temporary mounted datastore will need to be manually unmounted from the Backup
ERROR chbrnnsc01 --- [825027294-61402] c.n.a.r.AbstractRestoreStrategy          : ERROR_RESTOREMANAGER_FAILED_TO_RELOCATE_VM : <VM_Name>

  • The backup of the encrypted VM is successful.
