SnapCenter backups fail after Windows updates installed on plug-in hosts

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server (SCSQL)

  • SnapCenter Custom Plug-ins for Windows (SCC)

Issue

  • Backups start failing after Windows updates are installed on Windows-based SnapCenter plug-in hosts.
  • Overall Status of the affected hosts in SnapCenter UI > Hosts is Services Stopped
  • The plug-in services on the affected Windows hosts fail to start, with the following error seen in Event Viewer:

Description: A .NET application failed.
Application: SCEServiceHost.exe
Path: C:\Program Files\NetApp\SnapCenter\SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft Exchange Server\SCEServiceHost.exe
Message: You must install or update .NET to run this application.
