SnapCenter Clone Lifecycle Job Failure  while quiescing database for backup

Issue

  • SnapCenter clone lifecycle jobs for SQL Server databases fails during the backup job ‘Freeze database(s)’ activity. 
  • The SnapCenter backup job or clone lifecycle job fails with:

Activity 'Freeze database(s)' failed with error: Resource (Hostname\\Instance_name\\Database_name) failed with error (Failed to backup database [Database_name]. Error: A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details.)

  • Sample Log Output (SmSql logs): 

ERROR SmSql_67763 PID=[6660] TID=[86] An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
ERROR SmSql_67763 PID=[6660] TID=[86] A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider running DBCC CHECKDB.
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Database 'ODW' is not suspended for snapshot backup.
ERROR SmSql_67763 PID=[6660] TID=[35] Failed to backup database [Database_name]. Error: A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details.
