SCV backup fails due to "Snapshot hierarchy is too deep"

Issue

  • SCV backup fails with error:

Unable to quiesce on SCV: Exception occurred when quiescing virtual machines: <VMName>.Please check 'Create virtual machine snapshot' task on vSphere Web Client or SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere logs for detailed error message.

  •  vmcontrol_<JobID>.log shows error:
