SCV Backup randomly fails with: "Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes"

Applies to

  • SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SCV) 4.x
  • Data protection source SVM and destination SVM have duplicated data LIF IP addresses (VServer-DR/SVM-DR)
  • Datastores are used with SMBC (SnapMirror business Continuity)

Issue

  • SCV backup randomly fails as it tries to connect destination SVM instead of source SVM to take a snapshot
  • SCV jog log shows error:

[ERR] Failed to run a command New-NcSnapshotMulti
[DBG] ex.Message : Invalid input. Reason: Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes. 
[DBG] ex.InnerException.Message : Invalid input. Reason: Operation allowed only on Read_Write (RW) volumes.

  • vmcontrol.log indicates that SVM different than usual is found by NFS LIF before error occurres
