Oracle database cloning or backup mounting fails with No such file or directory

Issue

When attempting to clone an Oracle database, or even just mount one of its backups with Oracle on ONTAP NFS storage, the clone process fails with:
command exited with value 32. (errorcode)
reason: mount.nfs: mounting <HOST_IP_ADDR>:/Scc<UUID>  failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory
