Applies to

  • Active IQ Unified Manager 9.x (AIQUM)
  • VMware vApp

Description

  • AIQUM) vApp root filesystem is the ext partition mounted on /.
  • In this example that partition is /dev/sda1 on virtual disk /dev/sda.
  • Increasing the virtual disk in VMware enlarges the disk.
  • The partition and filesystem remain at the original size.
  • resize2fs then reports that there is nothing to do.
  • Example: The VMware disk was increased from 60 GB to 120 GB. The guest showed:

sda              8:0    0  120G  0 disk
`-sda1           8:1    0   60G  0 part /

  • /sys/block/sda/size returned 251658240. That value is the sector count for a 120 GB disk.
  • resize2fs /dev/sda1 returned:

resize2fs 1.47.2 (1-Jan-2025)
The filesystem is already 15728384 (4k) blocks long.  Nothing to do!

  • 15728384 4 KiB blocks is the original 60 GB filesystem.
  • Grow the partition before running resize2fs again.
  • The other vApp disks stay unchanged:
  • /dev/sdb, 12 GB, swap
  • /dev/sdc, the data logical volume mounted on /data
  • /dev/sdd, mounted on /jail
