Copy Offload is the process of sending only control data from the client to ONTAP while copying from one folder to another on the same storage node. The contents of the file are transferred internally in ONTAP and the client requests the blocks to be transferred. The PIT file is the container which ONTAP uses to copy the blocks internally from one folder to another

Like other CIFS options, the ODX portion is negotiated in tree connect & it remains with the session until it disconnects Hence, disabling ODX does not impact existing sessions, but new sessions will not see the option to do it & will no longer use ODX If ODX is already disabled, enabling ODX is also non-impactful. This is how it is tested: Started a copy using ODX It is verified the copy is still using ODX.
