Applies to

  • ONTAP 9

Issue

  • Upgrade from 9.11.1.P8 to 9.12.1P2 fails with:
Error:{ "error": { "message": "Unexpected parameter \"CP&DX\" is missing an \"=\" delimiter.", "code": "262248", "target": "CP&DX" } }
  • Upgrade from 9.15.1 to 9.16.1p10 also throws the same error as seen from NetApp Console > Audit trail during CVO upgrade
  • NOTE: This is not version specific issue but the & special character conflicts with the coding used during managed upgrades through NetApp Console and likely System Manager as well

Cause

  • A qtree contains the ampersand symbol in the name:  \"CP&DX\"

Solution

  • Remove the ampersand symbol from the Qtree name:  \"CPDX\"

Additional Information

  • If customer does not want to change the share name by recreating it or is unable to do so, you can just change the qtree name to remove the "&" without affecting the share
  • Perform the upgrade and once the upgrade completes, change the qtree name back to add the "&" back as it was prior so that there is no impact to the share
  • If this is done, they will hit this again the next time they perform an upgrade
