ICMP traffic is blocked on CVO data LIF

  • Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO)
  • Ping (ICMP)
  • Data LIF

Issue

  • Ping from a machine to CVO Data LIF fails with a time out.
  • Ping from CVO to the machine is successful (ping -node node1 -destination machineIP).

Cause

This behavior is expected.

Solution

  • This behavior is expected by design.
  • Data LIFs do not have ICMP service enabled.
  • Only node management LIFs have ICMP service enabled, for which inbound ping is expected work.
