CVO upgrade fails with "paused_on_error"

Issue

CVO upgrade from 9.11.1P14 to 9.11.1P15 fails with error message in BlueXP timeline paused_on_error

Cause

The upgrade is failing because the cluster is in a degraded state
 
Node 1 is in Unknown status following a reboot during the upgrade process:
 
CVOHAtest::> storage failover show

Solution

Stop and start the VM of the affected node in the Azure portal.
 
  1. Log in to Azure
  2. Navigate to the affected node VM
  3. Click Stop at the top of the page
  4. Wait until the status of the VM says Stopped (deallocated)
  5. Click Start on the VM
  6. Monitor the status of the node in ONTAP using ::> storage failover show
  7. Once the node is in the state Waiting for giveback, run ::> storage failover giveback -ofnode <affected_node>

The upgrade should complete automatically.

Check the current version of ONTAP with ::> version -instance

If the upgrade did not complete automatically, attempt the upgrade again.
