What happens when the Cloud Volumes ONTAP tiering policy is changed from All to Auto?
Applies to
- Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO)
- Cloud Tiering
- FabricPool
- Azure Blob Storage
Answer
- Changing the tiering policy from
AlltoAutodoes not automatically move data from object storage (BLOB) back to disk. - Data is rehydrated from BLOB to disk only when it is read, and only the accessed blocks are returned.
- Under the
Autopolicy, rehydrated or newly written data is treated as hot data and remains on disk until it becomes inactive for the period defined bytiering-minimum-cooling-days, after which it may be tiered back to object storage.
