Issue

Data volumes are sporadically getting detached immediately after a successful attachment operation in the OpenStack Cinder environment using the NetApp Cinder driver.

Log Output Example:

  • “DataVolume attachment issues: Data Volumes are sporadically getting detached. NetApp is specifically seeking a response to why the ‘detach’ call was initiated immediately after a successful ‘attach’.”

Background:
Customer reported that data volumes intermittently detach after being attached to instances. The issue was observed in a Red Hat OpenStack environment integrated with NetApp ONTAP storage via the Cinder driver. NetApp shared findings and engaged with Red Hat support to determine why a ‘detach’ operation was called immediately after a successful ‘attach’.
