Applies to

  • Capacity Based Licensing
  • Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO)
  • All hyperscalers

Answer

Unlike legacy node-based licenses, capacity-based licensing calculates the charged capacity as the sum of the total size of all data volumes in the cluster
  • Example:
    • 100TB aggregate
    • Aggregate has 2 Volumes in it:
      • Vol01 is 10TB total size and has 3TB used in it
      • Vol02 is 20TB total size and has 6TB used in it
    • Charged Capacity against the license would be 30TB (10TB + 20TB)

What does not count towards Charged Capacity:

  • Unreferenced Capacity leftover in Capacity Tier for FabricPool
  • Volumes that have been deleted and are in the Volume Recovery Queue waiting to be purged
