FAQs on Cloud Volumes ONTAP license expiry
Applies to
Cloud Volumes ONTAP
Answer
- What happens to the Cloud Volumes ONTAP system when the license expires or is removed?
-
- Cloud Volumes ONTAP system runs into default mode.
- The default mode is the operational state of the system when it does not have a valid license anymore.
- In default mode, the system continues to operate for a limited time, which is 14 days, after which it shuts down if the license is not renewed. During this time, the system will still allow access to data, but it is running on borrowed time and will eventually cease to function once the grace period expires.
- How is data retained?
-
- Data will not be deleted if Cloud Volumes ONTAP license expires or is removed.
- It remains safely stored in the cloud.
- Is there a grace period?
- After the license expires, there is a 14-day grace period to access your data.
- What happens when the grace period is over?
- After the 14-day grace period, the system will shut down daily, and you will temporarily lose access to the data. However, your data is still safe and remains stored in the cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) where your Cloud Volumes ONTAP instance is hosted.
- How can I regain access?
-
- To regain access to your data, renew the license or apply for a new license.
- Once the license is renewed, the system will start up again, and you will be able to access your data as before.
