Applies to

  • Tirdent for Kubernetes and Openshift
  • ONTAP 9 versions

Answer

  • The Trident documentation is not very specific about its ONTAP version support, although it mentions a version on the useREST parameter(*)
  • Due to the high development cycle of 4 month from version to version (since late 2023), current ONTAP versions.
  • The best way to check is to check the ONTAP release date from the Download site, and use a Trident version that came after (if possible).

Additional Information

For any ONTAP below 9.15, is will revert to using ONTAPI to access ONTAP for the needed functionality, which works with most ONTAP 9 releases,
although a release that is not End-Of-Version support is highly recommended - see "Software Version Support".

*) about specific usage of useREST:
  • ONTAP 9.15.1 and above are still better off if you set the backend "useREST" option to "false"; when REST API is the only option, it will be used nonetheless.
  • At this time ASA R2 systems (ONTAP 9.16.1) will require REST API usage, since ONTAPI is not implemented on these management simplified systems.
