Trident PVC failed to be attached with runtime error

Issue

A pod mounting a Trident PVC does not properly start and kubelet complains with the error message below:

Month DD hh:mm:ss kubelet.service:  nestedpendingoperations.go:335] Operation for "{volumeName:kubernetes.io/csi/csi.trident.netapp.io^pvc-xxxxxxx-yyyy-zzzz-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx podName: nodeName:XX.XX.XX.X}" failed. No retries permitted until YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss  (durationBeforeRetry 1m4s). Error: recovered from panic "runtime error: invalid memory address or nil pointer dereference". (err=<nil>) Call stack:
