Why is vol0 showing high number of IOPS?

Answer

  • Internal ONTAP processes cause high IOPS on vol0
  • It is considered normal behavior

Additional Information

  • It is usually safe to ignore in most circumstances as this should have no performance impact to user workloads
  • Engineering has stated that this is normal, expected, and if observed no fix is needed in most circumstances
  • 806862 High IOPS Observed on Root Volume/Aggregate
  • A couple other causes are listed in these two bugs:
    • 726693 High input output operations per second (iops/s) of type other_iops seen on volume vol0
    • 830749 High input output operations per second (iops/s) of type other_iops seen on volume vol0
