  • ONTAP 8.2 7-mode
  • Transition Peer Relationship between 8.2 7-mode system and ONTAP 9.6 or 9.7

Issue

When attempting to use Transition Data Protection (TDP) Mirrors between ONTAP 7-mode and ONTAP 9.6 or 9.7, these SnapMirror commands fail:

  • snapmirror initialize
  • snapmirror update
  • snapmirror resync
  • snapmirror break

Running any of the listed commands results in the error:

Transition data-protection relationships are no longer supported starting with ONTAP 9.6. Use ONTAP 9.5 as a transition destination, then upgrade. Alternatively, deploy host-based migration tools for NAS data transition, or FLI for SAN data transition. For further guidance, search the NetApp support site for "TDP SnapMirror unsupported"
