Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.11.1RC1
  • ONTAP 9.11.1
  • ONTAP clusters (any compatible version) in a peer relationship with ONTAP 9.11.1 cluster(s)
  • InterCluster SnapMirror relationships

Issue

  • After upgrading to ONTAP 9.11.1RC1 or 9.11.1, cluster peer relationships fail, primarily impacting InterCluster SnapMirror
  • Affected SnapMirror relationships can be associated with errors or symptoms including:

Failed to create Snapshot copy

CSM: Connection aborted

Failure to transfer data (Transferring   0B)

  • Affected cluster peer relationships either consistently report Partial, or will intermittently flap from Partial to Available status
    • Use cluster peer show to view the status of the cluster peer relationship
    • Compare multiple iterations of cluster peer show output to detect flapping from Partial to Available

Example:

CLUSTER-02::> cluster peer show -instance

                       Peer Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01
           Remote Intercluster Addresses: 10.37.22.200, 10.37.22.205
      Availability of the Remote Cluster: Partial
                     Remote Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01

CLUSTER-02::> cluster peer show -instance

                       Peer Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01
           Remote Intercluster Addresses: 10.37.22.200, 10.37.22.205
      Availability of the Remote Cluster: Available
                     Remote Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01

  • Affected cluster peer relationships may remain in Partial state, vs flap to Available

Example:

CLUSTER-02::> cluster peer show -instance

                       Peer Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01
           Remote Intercluster Addresses: 10.37.22.200, 10.37.22.205
      Availability of the Remote Cluster: Partial
                     Remote Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01

CLUSTER-02::> cluster peer show -instance

                       Peer Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01
           Remote Intercluster Addresses: 10.37.22.200, 10.37.22.205
      Availability of the Remote Cluster: Partial
                     Remote Cluster Name: CLUSTER-01

  • The cluster peer instability can impact any operations that use cluster peer connections to exchange API calls or data

Note:  The issue described in this article only applies to ONTAP 9.11.1RC1, 9.11.1, or other ONTAP versions in a peer relationship with ONTAP 9.11.1 / 9.11.1RC1.
