Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.7+
  • Joining nodes to the cluster
  • NDMP

Issue

  • New nodes are added to the cluster
  • The cluster already has NDMP enabled, and authentication configured
  • The "control connection" LIF is moved to one of the new nodes
  • NDMP authentication fails with the errors

getpwnam_r failed with error: '2', errno: 2 [No such file or directory]
Error: show failed: Cannot get password for user 'username'

WARN: getpwnam_r failed with error: '2', errno: 2 [No such file or directory]. Retrying
ERROR: getpwnam_r failed after 4 tries.

  • If the "control connection" LIF is moved back to its original node, NDMP authentication works
