When updating a MetroCluster to a newer ONTAP version, do the RCF files have to be updated?

Answer

Solution Answer
MetroCluster FC The MetroCluster FC switch  RCF files and port layouts do not have to be changed when upgrading ONTAP to a newer version with a different port layout.
Note: The cluster switch RCF files have to be updated to match the ONTAP version.
The RCF files in MetroCluster are primarily used to simplify installation and are getting updated to support new platforms and features (Example: Higher number of FCVI ports).

Example:
A system with a port layout, as documented in the 8.3 Install and Configuration guide, can be upgraded to 9.1 without having to adjust the layout to the differently documented layout in the 9.1 guide.
MetroCluster IP For MetroCluster IP configurations the RCF files need to match the ONTAP release.
To verify if a new RCF file is available run the MetroCluster RCF tool and check the rcf version.
